Howdy partners ! Cheyenne WYO tonight. Can you believe it ? Kiss is going to be here later this month. Have they no shame ? Nothing else to report. Just wearing out my tires on I-80 and generally having good riding experiences. Will start on the real roads maybe later tomorrow. Its a long way out here !

Thanks ! Tranversed WY today on 80. Wind was blowing 25mph constant and gusting to 45 the whole day. Wow ! Just another day at the office I guess.

Safe and sound tonight after our new buddies from Chicago on maybe a dozen Ultra Classics fed us pizza and good company. They said they had met some BMW riders who went UP the mountain trail roads they saw while they were were riding around the highways. They thought that was pretty wild !

Haven't seen it yet, but there is a local landmark here named after one of Flatty's ancestors I think. It's called the Fossil Butte. Now Mary says that's not how you pronounce it but I don't believe it. Perhaps tomorrow the mystery will be solved.

Tomorrow: the Potato State

Yea, real long haul, but I would love to ride the NW some time, furthest I got was eastern Idaho years ago.

Well, we now have 2 toes into Oregon tonight. The last 263 miles to Bend tomorrow. Nice riding today. Lovely vistas and sweeping roads for too short a time before Interstating it across Idaho. Weather is predicted to be sunny through next Tuesday and maybe beyond. People are interested in what all these odd bikes are that zip by everywhere they look. I agree with the old saying that that not only are the bikes odd but the owners are even odder. Met a guy today with MI plates that admitted that he had the bike shipped to Denver and met up with it there. Just like the Pinkertons with their horses on the train I reckon. I'm thinkin a return trip to Cody or Deadwood would also be fun.

Opening day at MOA. Hot Hot Hot. Think I will upload an album like I did before when we are done with the trip. I can say that Mary took an S1000RR out for a test drive today. the verdit was ..........favorable ! (Can't spell ecstacy) I found a BMW airflow jacket for cheap that I really really like and we interviewed the South African fellow at length who invented or programmed the GS911 diagnostic tool for BMWs. We ended up getting the USB model. Just a couple uses with results will probably save us the cost. Plus its road worthy and works with this little Netbook ASUS that we haul around on the road.

Went to buy some hotel beer on the way back tonight and decided to buy some Coors. We used to bring it back from Colorado as a treat to us prairie folks, but it became common place as the brewery sent it by the trainload to the East. Well somehow I stopped buying it back home but bought some tonight. Still tastes good but not sure what I think about those blue mountains.

Also, I should never have sat on that Adventure GS at the BMW demo tent. You may recall my ordeals with the too tall Ohlins on my GS which our friends at Ohlins adjusted by swapping out the spring for one a step lighter and now I find that my near perfect ride height on my GS is exactly the same as an ESA GS Adventure. Interesting !

Careful, geo, that can be costly! Big Grin Big Grin

Speaking of GS's.......
Todd with his new 2010 MultistradaS has been complaining about the seat being to soft....so he purchase the Ducati offered "touring seat" which gives more support....yet on our 350 mile ride last week was complaining of his butt hurting.  My reply was, it is just part of riding.  Then he starting talking of an article in the recent MCN that was tauting the new GS.  Then, a guy pulls up at our last stop on a new GS........and started telling him how great a bike it was.......well you know the history....I'll leave it at that.

That said, and to bust a thread.....the R1200R just had its 6000 mile service and two new Pilot Road 2's installed....the bike is T H E bike for me!!!!

Yes the Roadster is just about the perfect BMW. We have been running the GS bikes hard the past week and have a lot of respect for them. I think almost all of them are here in Redmond. Nothing major to report today. Watched Teach McNeil again do his stunt riding. He has an S1000RR that he shredded the rear tire on this afternoon. He is a middle school Latin teacher.( Gallia est divisa in tres partes) (See, Johnny Ringo isn't the only one who knows what's going on with that stuff !) Says he wants to continue teaching for the health insurance benefits. Seems like everybody gets reasonable sometime or other.

Sounds like fun!  I went to the rally in Redmond the last time it was there (2001).  I thought it was a nice location.  Be sure to get to Crater Lake!

Couldn't do it this time. Currently back in Laramie WY where high winds again caused us to seek cowboy food and relaxation. I hear my home area has been beaten up pretty bad the past couple days. Gotta find out what has happened there for sure.

No photos yet, but I found out why GS riders sometimes never wash their bikes. I washed mine and discovered under all the bugs that my shiny clear headlight lens has two cracks in it now. Too late for a protector now, but it does look like I can run it like that until I get used to the idea that its a $ 400 part. There is no way to fix it as it isn't made of laminated glass like car windshields. I doubt that the GS rock shields of a wire type would have helped. Something like a Wunderlich or Cee Bailey plexi cover would have worked though. NOW I figure that out. Darn !

On the plus side, My 07 GS used 4oz of oil in 4K and Mary's new camhead GS used a shameful 1oz over the 4K we traveled. Guess that means she can keep it !

Sorry to hear, you mean the 2007, right?

I have a Ventura lens protector for my S.  Glad it was "uneventful" on the rest of the ride!

I have one on order now from CB. Am not going to replace the headlight assembly right away. The larger crack seems stable. Maybe later.

We will look at their shield for Mary's GS. She is going to need one too. Thanks !
