It's been fun, and it's been good to be part of this forum, but with the roads getting ever rougher and more idiots with cell phones out en masse every day, I've decided to reduce some stress off my gal's pulmonary system and am selling OBSSSN.  I am posting here first.

I'm game for delivering the bike out to 500-600 miles (maybe more?) from where I-80 crosses the Mississippi River.

Here is the package, asking $4500.00

1999 R1100S ABS - Black  91K Miles
   Clear Iowa title
Metzler Z6 tires, less than 2K miles - new April 2009
heated grips - new grip rubber 2006
   new ignition switch

Upgrades:
New transmission input shaft with custom chromium carbide antifriction coating
5.5" BCR rear wheel, color matched silver
custom built up stock seat carcass - with solo cover
   adjustable Paralever trailing arm
custom made poly bushing replacing Paralever swing arm bearings
   Bar Backs
Two Brothers exhaust pipe - CAT removed
   City Bags
   Rear LED Blinker Buds
   cannisterectomy
   aftermarket rear plate frame
   K&N filter
   front fender extender

With the bike:
   Regular bag lids
   BMW tank bag
5" stock rear wheel & matching ABS ring
   OEM CAT & pipe
any special tools needed to service this model of bike

For $350 more I could be persuaded to sell the folding trailer I use to tow the bike.  Also clear Iowa Title.

Email mervinm@gmail.com if serious about buying.

I am sure the decision did not come easy, but remember that owning a bike is not required to hang out in the forums.  You will be missed should you slip out of sight.

FYI, the standard rear is 5" and the wide is 5.5", Should you want to sell the wider rim separately I might be interested.

Thanks, FOG!

Most of the noise problem comes from my helmet, so should I not find a new owner for OBSSSM I will be upgrading my head gear, probably to Schuberth.

Very nice.  Good luck with the sale.  Just because you don't own an R1100S anymore doesn't mean you have to become a stranger.   Big Grin

Unlikely.  You folks are the only ones making any replies.  No inquiries as yet.  And I won't be able to ride until April due to scheduling.

I'm giving it a month here on BMWForums.net first.  Then I'll cast a wider net...

Don't.

Post it up everywhere, asap!  Besides, sorry to say, this aint' exactly a high-traffic forum...

Hit all the bike-related forums you can find.  Your local dealerships usually allow used-bike flyers/posters.  Craigslist is huge, and don't just do your city, post it in other CL's near you.

No such thing as too much PR...  Whoa ... Nice

Any interest in parting out the bags and mounts?  I just got my DREAM bike ('01 R1100S) but can't ride to work without some way to carry my books and laptop!  It's torture 'cause I can't wait to ride to work...

Gorgeous bike, by the way.  I hope you find your lucky new owner soon (but maybe sans luggage?).

Thanks

Sorry, any baggage left over after the sale is already spoken for.  Hint: any R1100 series bag will fit on these bikes.  The S had a special extra large left side bag because there was no conflict with the exhaust, but any left bag will fit.

Thanks for the tip!  Since I am a newbie ("cupcake") I have another question: are the brackets the same as well, or do I need special ones for the S?  When you say that the left bag for the S is special because of the no exhaust conflict, does that mean that the S-speical bags work "better" (better to me means using as little exterior space as possible to provide maximum usable storage space).  Thanks for your advice.  I'm new to this bike and so happy finally to be riding a BMW (while managing to keep my Triumph as well!), I just want to get it set up perfectly ASAP.

cseel:

The left bag for the S has the maximum internal volume because it does not need to wrap around an exhaust system.  The rails are "S" specific, but the rails from any R1100S will fit any other R1100S.  BTW: I find Krylon rattlecan paint for plastics (black) to be a great perk-up every other year or so to keep those rails blackened.

Congrats on the sale, but as said before, bike or no, your visitation rights to the BMW asylum are still good.
