Well, I finally broke my off-road cherry!  It took me a little while to kick it as it hasn't been ridden in a year and it wasn't started very often.  After laying it over and kicking away, I was able to get underway and ride the driveway (3/4mi) a few times to get used to the power.  After a little time around the house.  I took the KTM out for a spin on the dirt roads in Barnegat.  I think I rode about 45-60 minutes ... not sure how many miles I went (no odometer, tacho, speedo, or hour meter) but I had a fucking blast!!!  She will wheelie in 2nd and 3rd gear on a little extra throttle alone, I'm sure I could ride the shift out with some more practice.  Big Grin

I'm not sure how fast I was going but it felt like 100mph at all times!  I'm sure it was no more than 40mph though.  Some of it was deep mud, there were several bike swallowing puddles as well.  I know, One I got the whole bike in while in a big left-hander, I was slowing but I slipped left, right, back left and almost lost it, but I held it up in a stall.  After I got it kicked, I saw I was at some Official Vehicle Only barrier anyway, so I turned around only to drop the front wheel in UP TO THE FENDER!  I popped it back out of the hole on torque and stalled again as I landed.  Holy shit!  I caught my breath and took pics...

I rode on for a while, got lost, found a road, got lost, found a road that I knew from hunting in December.  I found a huge area that used to be a firing range that was all flooded out but also full of dunes and whoops.  I thought I was running out of gas so I headed back to the main road to get home.  I had a quick blast down Howardsville and then to my main dirt road to get home.  Needless to say, I was fucking shaking and buzzing!  Both from the 2-stroke and the adrenaline.  I've never had such a time on 2-wheels.  I went places I only dreamed of going while I had the S back there and knew what I was missing.

I just wish I started earlier!  I also need to get the proper spring on there, I had hardly any traction on the back wheel at (important) times due to the weight difference.

Here are some late night pics of the "damage" ... just dirt carnage!

Thanks for the story.
Reminded me of the first motorcycle I had.  1966 BSA Victor Special.  Most of the riding I ever did on that things was on trails back in the woods.  Brother-in-law has a KLR and we swapped riding stories of places to ride.  He made me envious.  Might have to considered a dual sport as a 2nd bike.
