Cosmetic damage to luggage

I had a tipover and scratched my luggage lid, but was able to make an acceptable repair by using a large, course file. Filing the entire area until the scratches were gone, I then placed a peace of course sandpaper over the damaged area and hit it with a rubber hammer, moving the sandpaper to overlap and blend in with the undamaged area. When it looked as good as I could get it, I then used black shoe polish to finish it off. The repair isn't obvious unless you know it's there. It's worth a try before you decide to buy a new lid.

My RT which was purchase new at the end of 2004 has several "character" marks on the cases, mirrors and engine guards. All were due to
tip overs due to my short legs. ArmorAll type products temporarily hides most of it unless you look closer. The mirror edges, well thats another thing. Put touch up paint on the first few times. But the last 10 or so times just left alone.
