Maybe BMW will send us one to evaluate.

Walmart is almost as cool as my K1200R

I wouldn't mind trying one but right now I really want an 848, and I don't think a test ride on an S1000RR will change that.  My short time with a certain 749 had me forget all about my K1200R.  The K bike is far more practical but the riding experience was no where near as visceral.

I saw N8 in the beer tent, surrounded by Fan Bois .... the jerk still hasn't even accepted my friendship on facebook.  I guess I know where I stand too.  Smile

I wonder if he told the yetidave/JAS story at his "How I got started racing" seminar.

I hope to be able to play on one in Jan at the dealer meeting. Baby G will be here in Sept so hopefully my leathers will fit me again by then.  Stick Out Tongue  Price is pretty competitive with the market.  Thumbs Up

The local dealership had the "unveiling" day for the 1000SS here Tuesday.  N8 was there traveling around with one as they don't have enough for each dealer.  My son talked at length with N8.  I snickered and I remember some of the old stories here involving him. Big Grin

We saw the bike at the Indy GP and Nate was there as well explaining the riding modes. It looks like quite a bike. Touring bike ? Don't know if I would go that far. Various other (BMW owner) attendees rejected BMW's presence thinking that it was too small and not something a company like BMW should present itself as. I liked it, and thought it was a good job for what it was.

I saw it at last year's dealer meeting when it was still "top secret".  We weren't allowed to take pictures or anything.  I thought it was awesome and looks like good fun.  It is definitely reaching for a new market for BMW, which I think is great.

As always, I will make my judgment after a couple of years.  BMWs track record of getting it all correct just out of the gate is less than stellar.

The only thing that surprised me about this bike was the controls - they are defiantly not to the same standards that BMW is known for. They defiantly look cheap(er).

I heard even BIKE magazine, those whom hated the damned intuitive-to-me controls, lambasted them as Mini-controls Smile  They hate the flash/high beam switch -- which doesn't look much different than early-noughties Triumph stuff.  I've not had one in hand so I can't comment on the feel.

here are a couple close-ups I found:
