Here's a good one ... the F650GS is not the old F650GS but actually a new G800GS with a bad name!
Discuss.

After riding the 800 ST, I think the 800GS is going to be a great bike. What missed the boat is as a replacement for the old F650, is seat height. The old bike fitted with a low seat was very manageable for a short person, but the new one is quite tall, thus will not fill that much neglected segment of riders, particularly women.

That's why the new F650GS replaces the F650GS ... very confusing I know! The "650" has the same 798cc as the rest of the 800s and is the softer, more road-oriented bike now (19" cast vs 21" spoke front). That's the confusion ... what is on sale as the F800GS seems like it should be in the "G" range as the G800GS(X) or whatever. Damn BMW marketing.

New crazy BMW models...'G' is the new 'F'
G = single cylinder (G650XChallenge, G650XCountry, G650Xmoto) F = parallel twin R = boxer K = inline 4
The F800GS is consistently named, engine configuration and displacement but the new F650GS is screwy because it displaces 800cc makes no sense....
Maybe a F800CS would have been more accurate...its the worst designation ever. Their cars are now equally annoying in this department. 325's with 2.8 liter engines, 328i w/ 3 liter, 335's with the 3 liter engines...those last two digits used to mean something!!! I guess they still do but you need a model year and a decoder ring.

Wait a 5 at the end is a turbo now ... so where does THAT leave the x25??? Damn BMW and their crazy, drug-addled marketing department. As far as the bikes go, I understand a 1100 being 1085ccs but a 650 should be a 798cc bike! Wacky Krauts.

Any of y'all really, seriously, considering buying the 800GS?
I want to want the F800ST, but have just heard too many issues with it.

Not I. I would love an ST myself ... but I don't think I can bring myself to part with the S again ... voluntarily.

I have considered the F650GS as a possible 2nd bike. Provided I could get a deal on it. Have not yet checked but think the insurance would be much better than the Ducati 696 I had considered.

Well seeing how a spammer woke this up, I will comment on the original thread.
As i said, I loved the 800ST when I rode one for 2 weeks plus in '07 in Europe. When the wife and I went in Aug this year, I requested the 800GS, and I loved it. Plenty of room for 2 up, lots of low end grunt, very compliant suspension, great fuel economy, felt very light and playful, both the ST and GS would be on my short list if I were in the market for another bike.

The F800GS looks like an awesome little beastie. I would totally take one for skimming the paper roads around here. Gotta beat the R80s and R100s I see tooling around!
